Water

This section describes water sources and water quality.  Waterfront property owners have the choice of taking their water from a well or lake.

FOCA offers numerous resources on all subjects related to living on the water including water and wells.

Wells
For information on drilled wells go to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment's website on:
  • Well Owners
  • Well Resources

The Algoma Health Unit provides information on well testing and maintenance.

The Well Aware booklet guides you through the life cycle of a well, how to maintain your well, and shows you how your well affects water quality.

The Ontario Groundwater Association  is dedicated to protecting and promoting Ontario's most precious resource.

Homeowners must ensure that their well water is safe to drink, and that their well and septic systems are properly maintained. Buying A House with a Well and Septic System is a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation publication that provides a wealth of information about these subjects.
